Sabitri Brata is one of the most revered festivals for married Hindu women in Odisha and across eastern India. Observed on Jyeshtha Amavasya (New Moon Day in the month of May–June), this vrata honors Savitri, the legendary woman who saved her husband Satyavan from the clutches of death through her unwavering devotion, intelligence, and spiritual strength.
On this day, women observe a day-long fast, wear new sarees and shankha-sindoor, and pray under the Bata Bruksha (Banyan Tree) for their husband’s long life, prosperity, and protection from untimely death.
